Welcome to vpnguide.nz, an independent information site about VPNs, online security and home internet for readers in New Zealand. Our aim is simple: to help people who are not technical understand how these tools and services work, in plain language and without sales talk.
We are not a VPN provider, an internet provider or a software company. We do not sell subscriptions and we do not run any of the services we write about. We describe how they work, what they cost, what they can do and where their limits are, so you can make up your own mind.
What we do
On vpnguide.nz you will find guides to VPN services, antivirus software, password managers and private browsers, alongside explainers on New Zealand privacy law, broadband and Wi-Fi, and the streaming services available here.
We put particular weight on:
- Explaining technical terms such as encryption, protocols, latency and no-logs audits in a way a first-time reader can follow.
- Setting out the limits of a product as clearly as its benefits. A VPN, for example, is a privacy tool and not a guarantee of anonymity.
- Writing for New Zealand conditions: local law, local networks, local prices where they exist, and services that are actually available here.
- Keeping pages current and checked against reliable sources.
Our principles
Everything we publish rests on three principles: it should be fact-based, independent and easy to understand.
We check details against primary sources. These include providers’ own documentation and published audit reports, New Zealand legislation, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Netsafe, the National Cyber Security Centre and the Commerce Commission’s broadband monitoring. When a claim cannot be confirmed, we leave it out.
Prices, plans, server numbers and features change often. We date this kind of information where we can, and we ask you to confirm it with the provider before you buy.
How the site is funded does not decide what a guide says. Where a guide compares or ranks products, the reasons are set out in the text so you can weigh them yourself.
We write about what is lawful in New Zealand. We do not encourage copyright infringement, and we point out when using a tool in a particular way would breach a service’s own terms.
The editorial team
The content on vpnguide.nz is planned, written and reviewed by a small editorial team.
Adrian Holloway is the site’s editor and writer. Adrian is responsible for choosing the topics we cover, checking each guide against its sources before it is published, and updating pages when prices, features or the law change. Corrections sent in by readers go to Adrian for review.
How we use AI
Parts of our content are produced with the help of AI tools, including Claude from Anthropic, as support for research, structure and drafting. Nothing is published as it leaves an AI tool. Every guide is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by our editorial team first, and responsibility for what we publish always rests with us.
You can read more in our AI policy.
Contact
Have you found a mistake, an out-of-date price or a broken link, or do you have a question about something we have written? Please get in touch through our contact page and we will look into it. Feedback from readers helps us keep the site accurate and useful.
We cannot help with individual accounts, billing or technical faults with a VPN, software or internet provider. For those, the provider’s own support team is the right place to go.
