Sky Sport Now is the way to watch Sky’s sport channels in New Zealand without a dish, a contract or an installer. It is also the most expensive streaming subscription sold here, so it pays to match the pass to how much sport you actually watch.

Tick the services you pay for and pick the plan. The calculator shows what your streaming stack costs per month and per year in New Zealand dollars, plus the cheapest way to keep the same shows.
Prices are the standard NZ monthly rates verified in September 2026 (Netflix, Disney+, Neon, Prime Video, HBO Max, Apple TV, Sky Sport Now, Crunchyroll); YouTube Premium and Spotify are approximate. TVNZ+, ThreeNow and Freeview Streaming TV are free with ads.
The annual pass is the only one that changes the arithmetic much: at about NZ$45.83 a month it saves roughly NZ$170 against twelve Month Passes, but it is paid up front. The Day Pass is the sleeper option — if you watch four one-off events a year, that is NZ$120 rather than NZ$720.
Sky Sport Now carries twelve Sky Sport channels plus ESPN, which is where most rugby, cricket, netball, league, football and motorsport rights sit in New Zealand. Sky’s own help pages do not list a free trial.
Sky Sport Now, Sky Go and Sky’s set-top service
These are different products. Sky Sport Now is a standalone streaming subscription anyone can buy. Sky Go is the app that comes with a Sky pay-television subscription, so it is not something you can buy on its own. If you already pay for Sky at home, check what your package includes before adding another subscription.
What you need to watch it
The apps run on smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV devices, consoles, phones and browsers. For HD you want about 5 Mbps of steady bandwidth per stream, and for the 4K tiers roughly 25 Mbps.
Live sport is less forgiving than a film. A buffered drama recovers quietly; a dropped stream during a penalty does not. If yours stutters during evening games, that is usually Wi-Fi congestion rather than the plan — our speed test measures what you are actually getting, and the guide to connections that keep dropping out covers the fixes. A wired connection to the television is the single biggest improvement for live sport.
Kayo, and watching from overseas
Kayo Sports is an Australian service and is not sold in New Zealand; Sky Sport Now is the local equivalent, with different rights. Travelling New Zealanders sometimes connect through a VPN server in New Zealand to keep watching a subscription they already pay for. Using a VPN is legal here, though it sits outside Sky’s terms of use, and sports streams are among the most aggressively geo-fenced content there is. Our best VPN guide notes which providers run Auckland servers.
If you are weighing the whole subscription stack, our streaming comparison adds up what a year of sport plus entertainment costs — sport is usually the line that makes people rotate everything else.
Disclaimer
Prices are as at September 2026 and set by Sky, which changes them without much notice — check skysportnow.co.nz before subscribing. Using a VPN is lawful in New Zealand, but accessing a service from outside its licensed territory may breach that service’s terms of use.

Frequently asked questions
How much is Sky Sport Now?
NZ$29.99 for a 24-hour Day Pass, NZ$59.99 a month in HD, NZ$64.99 a month for the 4K Premium pass, or NZ$549.99 a year — about NZ$45.83 a month.
Is there a Sky Sport Now free trial?
Sky’s current pass pages do not list one. Promotional offers appear occasionally, so check the official site rather than affiliate pages recycling old campaigns.
What is the difference between Sky Sport Now and Sky Go?
Sky Sport Now is a standalone subscription anyone can buy. Sky Go comes with a Sky pay-television subscription and cannot be bought separately.
Can I get Kayo in New Zealand?
No. Kayo is an Australian service. Sky Sport Now holds the equivalent New Zealand rights.
What internet speed do I need for live sport?
About 5 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps for 4K. Any current fibre plan handles it; a wired connection to the television gives the steadiest picture during live games.
Can I watch Sky Sport Now overseas?
It is licensed for New Zealand and blocks overseas addresses. Travellers use a VPN connected to a New Zealand server, which is legal here but outside Sky’s terms of use.
Is the annual pass worth it?
Only if you watch year-round. It saves roughly NZ$170 against paying monthly, but it is charged up front and there is no partial refund if your interest fades after the season.
